Live Bluegrass, Folk, and Americana Music for Your Wedding

We absolutely love to celebrate love, especially when we get to celebrate it by playing our eclectic brand of bluegrass and folk music. Whether it's background music for the cocktail hour, a heartfelt tune for the wedding ceremony, or a lively, full-band performance for the reception, it's always a pure joy to perform at wedding celebrations. Our vast repertoire includes a variety of acoustic music including traditional Appalachian fiddle and banjo tunes, classic bluegrass and blues songs, Americana and folk, a little bit of Cajun, and a wide range of Irish music from upbeat jigs and reels to time-tested singalongs.

While we primarily perform as a folk and bluegrass duo throughout New England, we're pretty versatile. We can expand the band to a 3-piece, 4-piece, 5-piece or more for a larger, more lively sound for your wedding. From an acoustic duo that performs a song or two during your wedding procession or cocktail hour to a fun and raucous old-time stringband that turns the reception into an old-time barn dance, we can custom-tailor our performance to help create that perfect vibe for your wedding day.

Acoustic Folk Duo

Being a husband and wife duo, we sure as heck know love; and we love celebrating love for others. The Green Heron duo plays a very wide variety of acoustic music including old-time fiddle tunes, sweet ballads and duets, bluegrass, blues, old country, and Irish music of all kinds. We also play more contemporary folk music such as Gillian Welch, Mandolin Orange, Old Crow Medicine Show, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, and Trampled by Turtles.

Depending on what you have in mind, we can perform during any portion of your wedding day including the ceremony procession and recession, cocktail hour, and reception. Some of our more sweet and heartfelt instrumental tunes make for fitting ambiance before and after the ceremony. And our old-time fiddle and banjo music can create just the right atmosphere for the cocktail hour as folks are mingling.

Bluegrass and Americana Band

If a duo doesn't quite cut it, our full band of fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and bass can liven up your wedding reception. The Green Heron Bluegrass Band plays a variety of bluegrass, folk, country and Americana music from Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs to Allison Kraus and Tony Rice. The band can go from hard-driving, danceable classics to soft and sweet waltzes. The band can bring those down-home vibes to complete that down-home wedding.

Old-time Square Dance Band

On ocassion, we perform at square dances and contra dances and we love bringing the fun of our old-time stringband over to weddings. Complete with our very own dance caller, we can turn your wedding reception into an old-fashioned square dance. There's no better way to complete your farm or barn wedding with the sounds of fiddles, banjos, and feet stomping across the dance floor.

Celtic and Irish Music

In addition to American folk music, the band loves the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland and the British Isles. Whether it's the duo or a larger ensemble, Green Heron can bring the Irish pub straight to your wedding. Instrumental jigs, reels, airs, and hornpipes, as well as ballads and rousing sing-a-longs are well represented in our Celtic music repertoire.
